Delaware sports betting revenue and wagers drop in January

Figures released by the Delaware Lottery show that Delaware’s sportsbooks reported a significant decrease in sports betting handle and revenue in January.

The total amount wagered on sports at Delaware sportsbooks in January fell to $11.9m from $16.1m in December. At the same time, Sports betting revenue fell to $1.4 in January, a 36% drop from December’s revenue of $2.1m.

Breaking down January’s sports betting handle, Delaware Park took $8.1m in sports wagers in January. Dover Downs accepted $2.1m in wagers and Harrington Raceway took $1.6m in bets.

In December 352,037 bets were placed at the state’s sportsbooks while 227,328 bets were placed in January.

Looking closer at the revenue generated by sportsbooks, Delaware Park made up the bulk of the revenue with $975,731.

Dover Downs reported $259,058 in revenue and Harrington Raceway made up the remaining $203,568.

In terms of taxation, the three sportsbooks paid out a total of $719,179 to the state.

Since Delaware legalized sports betting in June 2018, the state’s three sportsbooks have generated a combined revenue of $11.8m
