FanDuel Sportsbook has arrived in Iowa and Indiana.
The daily fantasy sports provider turned sportsbook operator has launch land-based betting operations at four Boyd properties.
FanDuel Sportsbook has arrived at two Diamond Jo Casinos in Iowa and two Boyd casinos in Indiana. In Indiana, FanDuel Sportsbooks have opened at Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa in Michigan City and at Belterra Casino Resort in Florence.
In the coming months, the two companies also intend to launch mobile sports wagering under the FanDuel brand in both Iowa and Indiana, pending regulatory approval.
In a press statement, Keith Smith President and CEO of Boyd Gaming said: “Together, Boyd Gaming and FanDuel Group continue to successfully capitalize on the historic opportunity afforded by the legalization and expansion of sports betting in new states across the country.
“We are confident our partners at FanDuel will deliver excellent results in Iowa and Indiana as well, further expanding Boyd Gaming’s customer base and enhancing our long-term competitive appeal.”
FanDuel and Boyd
FanDuel and Boyd initially struck a partnership in August 2018.
Under the partnership, FanDuel would be able to establish and operate mobile and online sports-betting under the FanDuel brand in the states where Boyd Gaming is licensed.
Boyd Gaming, on the other hand, was given access to FanDuel’s technology and related services to help operate Boyd Gaming-branded online sports betting services.
Thanks to the partnership, FanDuel was able to enter the Pennsylvania sports betting market with the opening of a FanDuel branded sportsbook at Valley Forge Casino Resort. The partnership also allowed FanDuel to launch online sports betting operations in Pennsylvania.
Sports betting in Iowa
In August, Iowa became the eleventh state to launch legal and regulated sports betting operations. It was also the first state to launch mobile betting in tandem with land-based sports betting.
It has been less than a month since the Hawkeye State launched sports betting and 14 of the state’s 19 commercial casinos have already launched sportsbooks. At the time of writing, William Hill and Elite Sportsbook are the only two online betting options available to Iowans.
DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook are also expected to offer online wagering in Iowa in the coming months.
While the state’s sports betting regulations require bettors to create their accounts in person, this is only temporary. From 1 January 2021, bettors will be able to register remotely from anywhere within the state, eliminating the inconvenience of having to travel to a casino.
Sports betting in Indiana
On 1 September, Indiana became the thirteenth state to launch sports betting operations.
Indiana’s sports betting market went live with the opening of sportsbooks at Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago, Hollywood Casino & Hotel Lawrenceburg and Indiana Grand Racing & Casino.
Horseshoe Hammond launched sports wagering operations on 4 September and French Lick Casino was given the green light to launch sports betting on 6 September.
More sportsbooks are set to open in Indiana in the coming weeks and months.
Although Indiana lawmakers legalized online and mobile sports betting, it is not yet clear when mobile betting will go live in the Hoosier State.
The state regulator has yet to propose a launch date for online betting in Indiana.
