Online and mobile sports betting goes live in West Virginia

On Thursday 27 December, the state of West Virginia officially launched online and mobile sports betting operations.

Casino operator Delaware North launched its BetLucky.com mobile app making it the first operator in the state to offer mobile sports betting.

This puts West Virginia alongside New Jersey and Nevada as the only states that offer mobile sports betting in the US.

Luisa Woods, Vice President of Marketing for Delaware North’s gaming division said: “We think West Virginians and visitors to the Mountain State are going to love how easy it is to register and use the app.

“The platform was designed to be flexible, easy to use and reliable, with innovative features designed specifically to engage and entertain US sports fans.”

Delaware North’s mobile sports betting app can be downloaded via the Apple App Store or downloaded directly from BetLucky.com.

Residents and visitors can use the app to place wagers from anywhere in West Virginia as long as they are in state lines.

At the same time, Delaware North opened its two West Virginia casino sportsbooks bringing the total number of operational sportsbooks in the state to five.

Now west Virginians can place sports wagers at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack in Wheeling and at the Mardi Gras Casino & Resort near Charleston.

Kim Florence, regional president and general manager for both Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras said: “Our patrons are going to enjoy these spaces in the casinos and everything else we have to offer in terms of hospitality and entertainment.

“We are eager to welcome people from throughout the state and the regions surrounding West Virginia to try a new experience at our casinos.”

Although Delaware North’s casinos were the last to launch land-based sports betting, it became the first operator in the state to offer online wagering.

The existing sportsbooks in the state that have strong online platforms in other states like William Hill and FanDuel have not been granted approval to launch online sports betting operations in West Virginia.

It is also likely that DraftKings Sportsbook will seek approval for online wagering after a partnership between DraftKings and Hollywood Casino was announced earlier this month.
